India Day 2010: Annual event celebrates India’s ethnic and cultural diversity at Boston’s Hatch Shell Burlington, MA – June 18, 2010 – Hundreds of exuberant dancers in spectacular costumes and a bevy of talented musicians and singers will perform on Sunday, August 15, 2010, from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m., at the DCR Hatch Memorial Shell in Boston. The occasion is India Day 2010, a free, annual event sponsored by India Association of Greater Boston (IAGB) and its affiliate, Saheli. India Day provides a glimpse of the unique ethnic and cultural diversity of India. This year, it marks the 63rd anniversary of India’s independence from Great Britain.
Representative Barney Frank, chairman of the Congressional Financial Services Committee, will be the chief guest and keynote speaker at India Day 2010.
The celebration of the independence of the world’s most populous democracy will be an enjoyable event for all, regardless of their ethnicity. “IAGB’s India Day has become increasingly popular over the years. Hundreds of performers audition to participate in the event, and several thousand anticipate and attend it, with the attendance consistently increasing each year,” said Mohan Dali, President, IAGB. “Our highlight is a colorful cultural program featuring musical performances and dances, depicting Bollywood, Indian classical, fusion and the high-energy bhangra styles. India Day 2010 is made possible because of the dedication and hard work of our volunteers and the continued enthusiasm and support extended to us by the community at large.”
A mouthwatering selection of Indian food will be available for purchase. Booths set up on the esplanade will feature an array of goods and services. Representatives of Indian-American organizations in the Boston area will be on hand to provide information about their activities.
